Lonnie Givens Jr.
Lonne grew up in the Chicago area and began his singing career in 1976. His early influences included soul and blues greats Isaac Hayes, Johnnie Taylor, Z.Z. Hill and The O’Jays. Lonne’s first professional experience was with a group called the Soul Sensations. He later formed his own group entitled Pick of the Litter.
After many years, Lonne decided to take a chance on his strong baritone stylings and pursue a solo career. He has appeared on the same bill with such artists as The Floaters, The Detroit Emeralds, Patrice Rushen, Dennis Edwards, War, and The Friends of Distinction. Lonne has toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad, including Tokyo and the Philippines. He picked up his nickname while performing in Arkansas in 1989. After the concert, a man approached Lonne and said ‘Man, you should be called Mr. Blues, because of the way you sing that R&B. He spends quite a bit of time these days in the Midwest, listing his favorite venues as the ARJ Jazz & Blues Club in Milwaukee, the Beloit, Wisconsin Blues Fest and B.B. King’s Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Lonne and his band have also had a regular gig at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, receiving rave reviews for their outstanding performances.
