BASEBALL RECORD #10: “JOLTIN’ JOE DIMAGGIO” — LES BROWN AND BAND OF RENOWN, 1941

Baseball season starts in 10 days…or, otherwise stated, a week from Sunday. To lead up to the start of the season, we’ll look at my choice of the 10 greatest baseball recordings, starting with #10…

At #10, “Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio” by Les Brown and His Band Of Renown from 1941. Betty Bonney does the vocals on the song made popular when DiMaggio performed one of sports’ most untouchable records.
For the uninformed, DiMaggio hit safely in 56 straight games. After his streak was stopped by my Cleveland Indians, DiMaggio had in another 17 straight games. In 1934, while playing for the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League (a minor league), he would collect a base hit in 61 straight games.

Oh, and he was once married to Marilyn Monroe.

Next At #9…The Say Hey kid.
