Loretta Lynn Concert, Hurricane Mills, TN
July 5th 2008

Although the 4th of July was celebrated last Friday, the real fireworks were reserved for Saturday night at Hurricane Mills, where Loretta Lynn put on an amazing show for a few thousand of her closest friends. Looking positively beautiful in a gorgeous blue full-length gown, she thrilled the audience with a selection of her greatest hits. Loretta made the audience feel as if they were the most important people in the world. As a matter of fact, she encouraged the crowd to shout out requests, and Loretta gladly complied, treating them to song after song.
The night was truly a family affair, with Loretta's son Ernie getting the crowd warmed up with several up-tempo tunes. Ernie has enough personality for two, and was having as much fun as the fans. Not to be out-done, daughter Patsy (one half of the Lynn's) also put on a great performance. She really got the crowd going with a tremendous rendition of that old country classic "Old Lonesome Me."
Loretta's grand-daughter Tayla showed that she's an up-and-coming talent that feels right at home on stage, showing great energy and personality. One of the highlights of the evening was listening to the constant kibitzing between Loretta and Ernie. Although there was a lot of good-natured kidding around between the two of them, there was no doubt that when all was said and done, everyone knew that "Mama" ruled the roost.
The crowd was in for a special treat when Loretta unveiled a great surprise. She called onto the stage none other than Country Legend Jack Greene of the Grand Ole Opry. Jack was in great form, singing a couple of his biggest hits for the appreciative crowd, "There Goes My Everything," and "Statue of a Fool." The crowd rose to its feet and gave him a great standing ovation.
Other highlights of a most memorable night included a great song by Bart Hanson, who has an incredible voice in his own right. Last but not least, Loretta brought forward The Coalettes, her three very talented back-up singers, and performed a series of gospel songs that showcased each of their individual talents.
All in all, it was a night to remember. Loretta as always, was the consummate performer, sending her fans home happy and contented after many standing ovations through the evening. If you ask those that had the privilege of attending the concert, they'd tell you that all the fireworks that were set off over the weekend couldn't compare to the dazzling brilliance, warm personality, and incredible talent that is Loretta Lynn.
